Count Your Blessings: New Mom Edition

If I would’ve changed anything, it could’ve changed everything.

On August 27th, 2015, we welcomed our healthy baby boy Avery into the world. He was 6 pounds 9 ounces and 19 inches long. Though I experienced no heartburn, he had a head full of dark, downy soft hair. Alert as ever within his first hour of life, our eyes met. He had Courtney’s round inquisitive eyes and definitely had my nose. I couldn’t believe he was here or even real.

It’s been a little while since I’ve written blessings with being so wrapped up in mommy duties and all but I couldn’t think of a better time to sneak in some gratitude to share with you all.

Count Your Blessings

  1. I am truly blessed to have my new baby boy, Avery because I know he’ll be the motivation I’ve been lacking in my life to be greater. Before he was even born, he motivated me to finally finish my Associate’s degree and I’m just ready to set an example for him just like his dad.
  1. I am so happy and grateful for my partner (its weird to say boyfriend because he’s more but we’re not married), Courtney, because he was super hepful during the labor. From contraction walks to being my squeeze toy, feeding me and being so loving and protective, I’m really blessed to have such patient and enduring boyfriend in my life.
  1. I am truly grateful for epidurals because Lord, after 24 hours of labor, I was just too tired to withstand anymore painfully close contractions. It took away my pain within 10 minutes and I caught some much needed sleep and it even helped move me along to 10 centimeters dilated!
  1. With all my heart, thank you for Jamaica Hospital because the care and attention which the midwives showed me and them being patient and rooting for me to have my vaginal birth, skin to skin contact, and breastfeeding was just such a relief from what I usually hear hospitals doing. They also provided up with a wonderful going away bag stuffed with things for baby.
  1. I am so thankful for not tearing during birth because it allowed me to heal faster so I’m able to take care of my home and baby.
  1. Thank you so much for a safe vaginal birth because a Cesarean would’ve been my worst nightmare. Having a major surgery is nothing to be taken lightly and I’m just so thankful to push my baby out as naturally as possible.
  1. I am truly blessed for breastfeeding because from the moment Avery was born, he had an excellent suck reflex and I had producing milk before he was even born so I’m just so thankful we have no problems in that arena. Breast is best. Plus it shrunk my uterus and water weight really quickly!
  1. Thank you so much for my family because seeing all these loving faces surrounds me is just so heartwarming. From Courtney’s family to my family, I’m very grateful Avery has such a great base for love.
  1. I am so grateful for sleep because I really took my freedom to sleep for granted and the chances I do get to catch 3-4 hours here and there are golden and precious.
  1. Thank you for takeout because sometimes I have to choose between sleep or eating and cooking is impossible, even making a sandwich is hard so ordering some food or grabbing some takeout is the ultimate lifesaver.

Avery.

My pumpkin is just a joy and I swear he looks like me but he for sure has Courtney’s eyes.
