Audible Pick of the Month | Girl On The Train

Intensely narrated, this is my first non fiction Audible book and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists and character turns of The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins. Can’t wait to see the movie!

Do I recommend? I do.

The Easiest Most Fulfilling Way to Practice Gratitude Before Bed

Spirituality is an ongoing journey filled with tons of up and some downs. We’re human and we’re allowed to be in our feelings. To feel upset. To even feel a bit cynical. However, it’s never a good idea to hit the sack with feelings of ill will or upset. Prior to heading to sleep is the prime time to be grateful for so much in your life and negativity of the day’s past will only block your blessings.

In the past, I’ve hosted my Magic Challenge, with month long daily exercises for breeding and multiplying prosperity and goodness and I’m bringing back one exercise to practice before bed every night:

Think of the best thing that happened to you today and say thank you three times for that magical moment.

What this simple practice does instantly is bring up all the good things that happened to you today immediately pushing any negative things that may have occurred straight to the back of your conscience. You may even realize you’ve had multiple awesome things that happened today and even if nothing super special happened that day, simple occurrences such as seeing your family after a long day at work, having your favorite lunch or catching the bus which made your “late day” into an “on-time” day will make you appreciate the little things so much more.

The three thank you’s are just the cherry on top of the gratitude sundae. The power of three really solidifies any words. The first to bring it to mind. The second really listen to it and the third to feel it. When saying the thank you’s, it’s important you feel the words. Let them move you. The last one should bring a smile to your face right before your you drift off into sleepland.

You simply cannot go wrong with such a simple bedtime ritual. Start tonight and begin to breed positivity and start your journey into The Magic power of gratitude.

#ScorpioSeason|10 Things I Love About Being a Scorpio

#ScorpioSeason|10 Things I Love About Being a Scorpio

#ScorpioSeason is upon us. That lovely space between October 23rd to November 21st where the most interesting, brilliantly witty, emotionally inept creatures are born and I just happen to be one of them. Born November 5th, I’m well into the characteristically charged Scorpio sign.

Words used most often to describe include:

  • Passionate
  • Loyal
  • Ambitious
  • Focused
  • Jealous
  • Manipulative
  • Crazy (in the best possible way though)

We make amazing detectives due to our highly observant and unyielding motivation to find the truth. Wonderful parents due to our sensitivity and empathy, able to hone in on any emotions and heal with compassion. The best leaders due to our management and planning skills. It’s impossible for us to follow due to our dislike for authoritative figures. Why follow when you can make your own rules? Actually, DailyMail UK wrote an article that Scorpios dominate world leadership positions, with over 22 heads of government being led by the stinging sign. Damn!

The coolest of the cool are Scorpios such as Katy Perry, Drake, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Hillary Clinton and Bill Gates!

The pride I have for my sign is unwavering and I just have to share, no, scream from the roof tops, what’s so awesome about me, I mean, us!

1. Strength that allows us to fall off the horse 7 times but ride 8.

We don’t know what failure is because we never stop striving. God, I love that about me. I refuse to stop until I make it and yes, we end up banged up and bruised because of it but our egos deflate knowing we gave up, relinquished power or caved to pressure. It’s all about succeeding because it’s inherently within us.

2. We know what the hell isn’t for us and stick to it.

Although we aim to achieve, we know what isn’t for us. Unknown exotic fare for dinner, ugh, no thanks, I want the regular. Teal shirt? I’ll stick to burgundy. An opportunity that just doesn’t make sense to you so you choose to pass. People may think you’re a slacker, lazy, short-sighted–but the thing is, we know our lane and we usually stay in it. We’re perfectly within our rights to do so.

3. We’re magnets–to oddjobs.

If you take a look at a Scorpios friends, you’ll see a perfect reflection of them and you’ll wonder: What the hell? Scorpios always seem to host the oddest set of friends. You know why? Because they’re weird too! In High School, I was so lucky to have friends from every “clique” but I mainly rolled with the artists and misfits. People your parents wouldn’t be too fond of but you love them because they complement you. Scorpios aren’t picky, they just wanna have fun.

4. Mmmm, Oh My God, Stop F**king Talking.

Communicative creatures AF! We ask questions (unless we don’t care). Many questions and have statements. Many statements. We ask to learn. We gossip. We intrude. We vocalize. We give great speeches and deliver intelligent conversation. Hey, look at this blog. I had to create it because people were sick of hearing me talk. I’m pretty sure Scorpios just love the sound of their usually monotone voice.

5. We find solace in quiet.

Just as much as we gab, we shut down just as fast. Most Scorpios are introverts by nature. I literally become exhausted after a day at work not physically but from carrying so many small conversations all day long. By lunchtime, you can find me hiding in my rent-a-van or even a bathroom stall to escape inclusion. Mornings when everyone hasn’t yet risen or night when all’s asleep. A bowl of popcorn and a remote. A park stroll alone with my headphones in. These are a few of my favorite things.

6. We’re spiritual zealots.

You know, I haven’t met a Scorpio that didn’t have a passionate belief in something. I intensely believe in a higher being, in the universe and in good energy. Many Scorpios have the profession of church leaders. Pastors, deacons, priests. Why? Because when we believe in something, we love it and when we love it, it must be shared because deep down, we just want to help. And being feverish over what brings us solitude is just normal. How can I know God is good and not spread the word or know the Law of Attraction and teach you how to utilize it? As a Scorpio, it’s our job to force our beliefs down your throat! We need an army–to lead, of course.

7. Is this organic?

We tend to care about our body, our temple and feed it well. Most Scorpio women I know enjoy feeding their temples wholesomeness even if its just one green smoothie a day, an errant kale and avocado salad for lunch or having a meatless Monday every so often. We read labels and puree babies food. We enjoy strolls at the green market and planting and harvesting herbs from our windowsill. We enjoy purity and knowing we may live until 112 by incorporating these habits into our lifestyle.

8. Damn, I’m the sh!t!

Most Scorpios you know you either love or hate due to their aura. Love them because of their cool confidence or hate because of their tacky arrogance. We can’t help but think we’re all that and a bag of chips. We own any room we walk in. We slay outfits most think twice before trying on. We make parties come alive and its all in the way we carry ourselves. We aren’t really afraid of being goofy and in that we lose a lot of insecurities. We never try too hard because we don’t have to. We’re the The absolute worst part is, we know it!

9. I may as well be Miss Cleo.

Our intuitiveness is unmatched by any other sign. We have the uncanny sense of just–knowing. Scorpio instincts are one of our finest traits. I sense sincerity, fakeness, weakness, deception, flirtiness all in an instant. We usually can sense ones intentions within 2 minutes of a conversation. This is wonderful for weeding out good cookies and bad brownies but because of our run ins with bad brownies, our guards are up to shield us from hurt. Sucks for the good cookies but we need to prepare ourselves for the worst. We have no time for anyone who isn’t real. I really love this trait.

10. Family. Family will always come first.

Scorpio loyalty. Ain’t nothing like it. This sign is who you call true “ride or dies”. They ain’t going nowhere if they’re down for you. Even worse if you’re connected by blood. Family is top priority for Scorpios because family, when all is said and done, will be there when the dust settles. Scorpios are sometimes ungrateful to this fact but never not recognizes the depth of love they have for mom, dad, brother, sister, nieces, uncles and cousins. I believe because family is our first and deepest memory that we just have that attachment to them. Our first loves: our parents. Our first friends: cousins. Its all inherent in us to roll deep and hard with family through the good and bad. They are our happy spot, unless they ate all the Crunch N’ Munch you were saving for later, then it’s time to kill. Hurt. Ok, ok, scold. Harshly.

Ok Scorpios, as you may know, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s an endless list as to why we’re magically delicious but I’ll stop here. And for all those non Scorpios, know that we’re not jealous psychos or sexually charged nymphomaniacs but deep souls with a mildly addictive personality. Love us or hate us, our time is now so have a seat.

Live long and prosper my Scorpio brethren.

Count Your Blessings: New Mom Edition

If I would’ve changed anything, it could’ve changed everything.

On August 27th, 2015, we welcomed our healthy baby boy Avery into the world. He was 6 pounds 9 ounces and 19 inches long. Though I experienced no heartburn, he had a head full of dark, downy soft hair. Alert as ever within his first hour of life, our eyes met. He had Courtney’s round inquisitive eyes and definitely had my nose. I couldn’t believe he was here or even real.

It’s been a little while since I’ve written blessings with being so wrapped up in mommy duties and all but I couldn’t think of a better time to sneak in some gratitude to share with you all.

Count Your Blessings

  1. I am truly blessed to have my new baby boy, Avery because I know he’ll be the motivation I’ve been lacking in my life to be greater. Before he was even born, he motivated me to finally finish my Associate’s degree and I’m just ready to set an example for him just like his dad.
  1. I am so happy and grateful for my partner (its weird to say boyfriend because he’s more but we’re not married), Courtney, because he was super hepful during the labor. From contraction walks to being my squeeze toy, feeding me and being so loving and protective, I’m really blessed to have such patient and enduring boyfriend in my life.
  1. I am truly grateful for epidurals because Lord, after 24 hours of labor, I was just too tired to withstand anymore painfully close contractions. It took away my pain within 10 minutes and I caught some much needed sleep and it even helped move me along to 10 centimeters dilated!
  1. With all my heart, thank you for Jamaica Hospital because the care and attention which the midwives showed me and them being patient and rooting for me to have my vaginal birth, skin to skin contact, and breastfeeding was just such a relief from what I usually hear hospitals doing. They also provided up with a wonderful going away bag stuffed with things for baby.
  1. I am so thankful for not tearing during birth because it allowed me to heal faster so I’m able to take care of my home and baby.
  1. Thank you so much for a safe vaginal birth because a Cesarean would’ve been my worst nightmare. Having a major surgery is nothing to be taken lightly and I’m just so thankful to push my baby out as naturally as possible.
  1. I am truly blessed for breastfeeding because from the moment Avery was born, he had an excellent suck reflex and I had producing milk before he was even born so I’m just so thankful we have no problems in that arena. Breast is best. Plus it shrunk my uterus and water weight really quickly!
  1. Thank you so much for my family because seeing all these loving faces surrounds me is just so heartwarming. From Courtney’s family to my family, I’m very grateful Avery has such a great base for love.
  1. I am so grateful for sleep because I really took my freedom to sleep for granted and the chances I do get to catch 3-4 hours here and there are golden and precious.
  1. Thank you for takeout because sometimes I have to choose between sleep or eating and cooking is impossible, even making a sandwich is hard so ordering some food or grabbing some takeout is the ultimate lifesaver.

My pumpkin is just a joy and I swear he looks like me but he for sure has Courtney’s eyes.

My labor and delivery was a kind of a funny story and my partner and I just so happened to document and film that day.

My Week in Gratitude | 5/11 – 5/17

My week of Gratitude This is my week in gratitude for the week of May 11, 2015 to May 17, 2015.

A documentation of all the blessings, big or small, I acknowledge and thank throughout my week (that I can remember) in no particular order.

  • I am truly blessed to have my brother Aldon repair our apartment walls within two days. He did such a wonderful job because of his years of skills in construction and the speed and neatness he achieve it in it so great. He plastered, sanded and polished our wall and I tipped him what I could but I’m truly grateful for his time given.
  • I am so happy and grateful Courtney bought our new couch! Jennifer Convertibles was having a Memorial Day sale and we scored this beautiful chaise section (wanted), sleek and modern (wanted) in grey (WANTED) for $499!! I cannot wait to get my check so I can pay my half but oh my God, the happiness and peace of mind that’s achieved by purchasing that major item for your apartment makeover is so amazing! I’m elated and cannot wait to decorate and plop down in it with baby A, and finally enjoy our living room.
  • I am truly grateful for the random $10 I happened to look down and spot on my bike ride. Courtney and I JUST finished saying I didn’t’ have enough cash just in case card reader at the Subway’s we go to didn’t work and just like magic, $10. How blessed I am. It could’ve been $1 and I’d be just as elated but the universe provided me with the right amount for what I needed. I’m glad the reader did work because I was able to hold on to that $10 and helped Courtney out when purchasing our couch. He was short $10!! Not a coincidence people!
  • With all my heart, thank you for reaching over 700 subscribers! Like wow, just wow. I am so thankful to just be acknowledged because making YouTube videos is something I’ve wanted to do for over seven years…SEVEN YEARS! It finally happened though and I’m slowly building and my ultimate ultimate ultimate goal, is just to inspire. I know it sounds so corny but I love to help. Actually, I’ve always wanted to be a role model and having this platform with loyal fans just makes me excited to make inspirational, informative and entertaining videos.
  • I am so thankful for my sister Tracy coming over to get her hair done because as much fun as I have for doing hair and such, she, out of the goodness of her heart, pays me for my services. I love my family and wouldn’t charge. I’m just happy to see them but the fact that she gives me a bit of money helps so much. I can use it for groceries, meals, the apartment…Thank you, Tracy.
  • Thank you so much for my sonogram this week. We were finally able to get Baby A’s full stats, even though he still gave the technician a bit of work and was even able to get a 3D scan! I love his little face and he looks JUST like Courtney. It’s amazing at such a young premature state, how developed his features already are. He’s also almost 2 lbs! Yummy!
  • I am truly blessed for being asked to work on 5/23 on a shoot because I haven’t been working as much as I did prior to my pregnancy. The week before last, I worked a 5 day job in office/studio and I worked with Angela (my favorite production manager) and even found out I was getting $50 more than my assumed daily rate and I had such a great time catching up, working, being on set again. I’d be driving this coming Saturday and its just one day but I’m thankful for even being considered.
  • Thank you so much for my girls (Tracy, Thacia & Shamara) because they’re planning our baby shower and taking the reigns on food, decorations, favors, music…I’m not a planner and a bit indecisive so having a person to tell me what and where is such a relief. Financially and mentally. I love you girls so much. Thank you.
  • I am so grateful for my WIC checks. Last week I got a two month re-up and I’m just joyous to be able to get free groceries! I can never be ashamed of free food especially when I’m not on a high income. Even if I was a millionaire, who doesn’t like free food!? I’m looking forward to July’s farmer’s market checks where I get a nice amount of money to browse and shop local fresh produce and there’s nothing like fresh produce to nourish my lil boy and I.
  • With all my heart, thank you for the beautiful weather last week. Summer is almost here and wow, we missed you. Warm weather means more play time outside, activities, skin showing, sandals, bright colors, care freeness…So blessed to soak up some rays and vitamin D.

Shout outs to:

  • Home Depot for our supplies for renovations
  • My mom for calling Aldon
  • The Lady on the train that offered me a seat
  • Courtney for that box of  wonderful Haitian mangoes
  • Marshall’s for that cute acrylic makeup organizer and discounted dry shampoo
  • Pinterest and Apartment Therapy for the endless design and organization ideas

Thank you, thank you, thank you Universe. You’ve given my abundant blessings for which I cannot thank you enough but I will never stop trying. I’m so highly favored and blessed. I’m well. I’m happy. I’m inspired and will only, only go up from this day forward. This is my word. This is my stance. This is my truth. Through positivity, I will achieve.

The Magic Challenge | Day 7

The Magic Challenge | Update

Hello my beautiful people!

So you may or may not have noticed but I fell short of my 28 day The Magic Challenge daily practices, tapping (falling off) at day 23. I’m not mad at all though because those days were enough to re-instill the practice of gratitude into my everyday life. I’ll definitely do the challenge again, however, and make it to day 28 but I’m really proud of how far I made it.

Right now, as I type this, I’m outside basking (baking) in the sun after a lovely breakfast of multiple nectarines and mangoes while my little one kicks happily inside me and butterflies float past. Whimsical, ain’t it? I can appreciate all these slight nuances around me because I choose to. Blessings are so abundant around us and it’s just so awesome to experience life through rose-colored glasses.

Blessings Come In Many Packages

I’m not going to sit here and pretend I didn’ t have off days. I did. Hormones, issues, a light bit of stress is normal but how I choose to deal with it helps get me out of my funks fast. Wallowing in misery isn’t healthy or productive so seeing any positive in a situation no matter how negative can only make you stronger and your blessings more abundant.

I wake up and bless the day. Happy that my eyes even open. Happy I have a bed to sleep in. A kitchen to make breakfast. Food in the kitchen. Blessed to see the sun. For all my readers. For all my subscribers. Of course for my family and their love and support which we all must never take for granted.

The Magic Challenge Day One Prep

I heavily encourage the book The Magic by Rhonda Byrne in which all is explained in details and the power of implementing gratitude to magically change your life. Its based on faith, spirituality, religion, whatever you worship but kicked up a notch through explanation of how to reap better benefits from your religious views. You cannot go wrong with thankfulness. I reap the benefits everyday and then some.

I’ll be doing weekly gratitude updates to show my gratitude for things big and small happening in my life so stay posted.

Wishing you the absolute best,

C Marie

The Magic Challenge | Day 23 | The Magical Air That You Breathe

Magic Practice Day 23

The Magic Challenge | Day 23 | The Magical Air You BreatheCount your blessings

  1. I am truly blessed to have faith because hope is the biggest motivator in life. Living without faith is dull and depressive. I need to know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel in which total happiness supervenes.
  1. I am so happy and grateful for curry because its one of my favorite cultural flavors–seasoning meats, legumes and seafood, curry is so delicious.
  1. I am truly grateful for Earth because it has been specially created and wonderfully designed to house us. From Oxygen and gravity to trees and water, every component of planet earth sustains life—sustains me.
  1. With all my heart, thank you for butterflies because they are beautiful creations that start out as not so attractive caterpillars but blossoms into magnificently painted creatures that spreads pollen as well as joy that warm weather is here.
  1. I am so thankful for my writing abilities because since I was young, I’ve had a way with words. Communicating was always my strength but putting those words to paper, in text form, is a great release. I can vent without the stress of needing another’s ears.
  1. Thank you so much for the basement because it belongs to Courtney, which means it belongs to us. It’s where we can retreat without invasion of privacy, annoyance or criticism of how WE live.
  1. I am truly blessed for nature because enjoying all of the creations we share the earth with as such a blessing. I’m so happy to see the coming of spring & summer again. It’s been so long since I’ve felt the sun kiss my skin and a bumblebee hover pass my ear.
  1. Thank you so much for exfoliator because getting rid of dead skin is a great way to show the true beauty of my skin and it feels so smooth afterwards.
  1. I am so grateful for blue skies because the color is so rich and beautiful and it means great weather.
  1. With all my heart, thank you for my smile because I look more beautiful with one than without. It also means I feel good within and nothing feels better than that.

The Magic Challenge | Day 23 | The Magical Air You Breathe

Have you ever taken time to think about your breath? The fact that there is air to breathe. Oxygen filling your lungs every few seconds without which it would only take us minutes to die. Well, today, we are going to appreciate that very sentiment. That the divine design of the universe has perfectly placed air for us so freely. That even our environment is set up so wonderfully that trees gives of as waste the very thing we need to survive and vice versa. How amazing is the creator!

Five times today, stop and think about the glorious air you breathe. Take five deliberate breaths and feel the feeling of the air air moving in and out of you.

After you have taken your five breaths, say the magical words: Thank you for the magical air that I breathe. Be as grateful as possible for the precious, life-giving air that you breathe.

The Magic Challenge | Day 7

Before bed, say thank you for the best thing that happened to you today while holding your Magic Stone.
